The Advance Group has partnered with a company located in Pemberville, OH seeking a Journeyman Tool & Die Maker. This is a 1st shift direct hire position paying $50,000-$60,000 DOE.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Plan and perform bench and machine operations requiring more simple setups and methods to maintain close tolerances
  • Adjust and repair tools, jigs, fixtures and gauges of routine to simple design
  • Sets up and operates tools such as lathes, milling machines, shaper and grinder to machine parts and verifies conformance of machines parts to specifications
  • Fits and assembles jigs, fixtures, tools and dies. Sets up runs off and test dies to produce a product to specifications, tracing die difficulties to their source and correcting them
  • Visualize the finished job, make necessary mathematical calculations and select allowances for spring, lapping, grinding, fitting, and finishing
  • Reads and interprets routine blueprints or works from verbal or written instructions for the part
  • Perform difficult and exacting machine operations requiring a variety of setups and methods to maintain close tolerances
  • Make tool tryouts, detect faulty operation or defective material and correct trouble
  • Assist in the training of Tool Room Apprentices
  • May assist Punch Press or Fourslide setup persons in Fourslide or Punch Press overhaul
  • May work with Tool Designers providing input to manufacturing capability on newly formed parts
  • May be trained as an internal auditor for the ISO/TS System


  • Requires a very high degree of precision and control in work where damage could be high and where muscular control and delicate touch are required
  • High degree of attention and care required, to prevent injury to self and others when operation machine tools
  • Good attendance record is required
  • Journeyman's card
  • Completion of formal apprenticeship program or completion of in-company, four-year training program to satisfaction of program requirements (hours, school, etc.) or equivalent outside work experience
  • 5-7 years previous experience
